Supermarkets

Have you noticed the cost of your supermarket shop increasing? No matter how hard you try, even moving some of the shop to own brand foods, the cost has gone up noticeably on a year ago.

We used to be a Tesco shop family but migrated to Sainsburys for better prices and more spacious feel to the shopping. We have now migrated again. After hearing many friends and talk at the school gates that Morrisons gives a better price to the overall shop.

I still like Sainsburys, with its wide and clean isles but Morrisons feels noticeably cheaper and that is a significant factor when prices all around are increasing. It is so noticeable that when I first went, I thought I had missed items off the list. Fruits and vegetables especially are good value. The past few weeks all our weekly shops have now been at Morrisons.
The only real non cost difference I can see between these 3 (I don't have an Asda nearby) is that Morrisons does not bother with a loyalty card. Suits my pocket fine :-)

Piano Man

Neither myself or my wife are musical, in as much apart from any singing in the bathroom or along to the radio in the car, we do not play any musical instruments. One of those things you have a desire for but have never made or found the time to take up learning.
That I suspect you can say is a big reason why bought a piano and are giving the kids piano lessons.  Music is lovely and is relaxing especially if you can play yourself.  Well they have taken to it and have been learning in earnest for around 6 months.  It is amazing how quickly kids take on any such learning.

Well off the back of the kids I am trying to learn the piano.  Bit too expensive at the moment to add myself to the teachers register but I just want to learn to play a little for the fun of it and trying to keep up with the kids should help spur me on.

I am finding that there is not a lot of resource out there for true beginners as in where to start.  All resources do assume you have knowledge already, so think this is a good a way as any and have my kids to help me along as they practise themselves. So I am told that scales are important to be able to move your fingers around the keyboard correctly so that is where I am starting as my kids did a while back.  Lets see how I am doing in about a year.  Will post updates regularly.

So I have found middle C and am learning my C scale. The white key to the left the two black keys, is C and middle C is found with the two black keys in the middle of the keyboard.
A quick search of youtube will show you the fingering for the C major scale.

The word of the week this week is "No."

That, surprisingly is not the kids word. It is my word of the week.  Apparently I am not allowed to say no, otherwise my eldest has a hissy fit.
So my simple plan is to "just say no". He asks for something and I say "no".

I will continue to say "no" until he understands the word no and no longer has a hissy fit. Let's see how this week goes  ;)
